Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

BlueScope EPDs

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are available for a wide range of BlueScope products, further enhancing our commitment to transparency regarding the environmental impacts of our products. The EPDs are published under the EPD Australasia Programme and are aligned with EPD standard EN 15804+A2.

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a third party verified and registered document that communicates transparent data and other relevant environmental information about the life-cycle environmental impacts of a product.

BlueScope's EPDs are expressions of our strong commitment to environmental transparency and reflect our focus on product stewardship and broader commitment to sustainability. Unlike industry-average EPDs, all BlueScope's EPDs provide information that is specific to our products.

BlueScope EPDs

EPDs are available to download for the following BlueScope products:

Note: Due to changes in the EPD Programme rules, new EPDs are now published individually for each metal coating class and base metal thickness (or BMT), e.g. for COLORBOND® steel for fencing there are 5 EPDs covering products with AM100 and Z275 coating grades and 5 BMTs in total. EPDs published prior to 2024 still combine multiple product thicknesses into one document and remain valid as per the validity period noted in the EPD.

Need an EPD for a product not covered? Contact us!

If you require an EPD for a product with a specific coating class and thickness (BMT) that is currently not covered by our EPD range, it can be requested by contacting BlueScope Steel Direct (steeldirect@bluescopesteel.com).

How do I use an EPD?

BlueScope EPDs can be used to help support whole of life assessments for end uses such as buildings, infrastructure and their components, as well as everyday materials. Using EPDs in the context of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for a whole structure or development can help enable better environmental optimisation in the built environment by providing transparent information about the environmental impact of a product.

For a range of products, including select products in the COLORBOND® steel range, ZINCALUME® steel, TRUECORE® steel, DECKFORM® steel, and GALVASPAN® steel, our EPDs also cover the rollforming process2, offering indicative results for the final formed product. This additional information supports customers by providing more relevant details about the products they specify or purchase, in line with industry demand for greater transparency.

Use of EPDs in rating tools

EPDs may contribute to the achievement of credit points under Green Star rating tools, the Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating and other leading green building rating schemes. For more information on how BlueScope products may help obtain points under these schemes, please refer to the following articles:

Notes
  1. At select base metal thicknesses (BMTs). Please refer to the corresponding EPD for the full details of the products covered
  2. The rollforming results may not be representative of the final formed product from any particular rollforming operation, company or site. Actual results will vary depending on a range of factors specific to the particular operations of the downstream processors. Please refer to the relevant EPD for further detail.
